If the aim of this is to create alien atmosphere and contemplation in the manner of "Tangerine Dream" et al, then it works. Back in the 70's when the tape and the technology were hugely complex and messy it was an awe inspiring thing to an aspiring synth twiddler, now it is riddled with cliché and sadly trite.

I remember one of the Human League, way back when they were interesting, saying words to the effect "Well just set the machines going and go off down to the pub, when we get back, we listen to what we've got to see if there's anything interesting."

Naturally I must respond to Andy’s comment, not because of the opinion but because it starts by explaining the aim which while I may be under qualified in what constitutes good music, I am more qualified to know what my aim was!

This is a remix of a techno track I did using most of chapter one of Carl Sagan's 'You Are Here' (Pale Blue Dot) which I'm sure you spotted but wanted to put some live instruments in. There was certainly no aim to produce a particular atmosphere as working on ones own everything is by nature experimental.

However, I actually wish I hadn't submitted this in it's current state. It was picked up by BBC Wiltshire who asked to play it a couple of weeks ago. I sent a copy and listening to it on the radio I wasn't happy with the production so I remixed it on small speakers then sent it off. listening back in my car did I realise I'd possibly made things worse.

Following up (sorry but 100 characters is no good for someone like me!) there was no aim to recreate a piece in the style of Tangerine Dream but I do find that my influences sometimes come through uninvited. I was probably listening to DJ shadow in this case but as a younger lad I was very much influenced by prog rock. Tangerine Dream were a band I admired so it may have happened as I find I still listen back to new ideas and realise I've just ripped Rush off again.

On the plus side, I don't thinkI've done anything too much like Marillion yet ;O)

Gladly Ade

I was considering, assuming you don't mind music that's less than brand new of submitting some Sepiatone or Captain Mandate...?

Otherwise I am working on new tunes and will be more than happy to submit. I'm currently working with a band called Spongefinger (sepiatone with a different singer basically) and we've recorded 3 tunes so far.

I'm also recording another song with Leanne Mack this weekend written by Dean Baigent of Shepherds Pie (and Sweet FA if you're old enough) called The Light. bit more MOR style

best
