Wish they'd drop the American, which lapses into a "Ray Davies" feel anyway, which is, to my mind , much more homely and nice.

I like the country twang in the instrumental but Elvis Costello and the Squeeze boys proved you don't need to be, or even act American to do that.

It gets so much better after the intro and the ending is lovely, I would go for that feel from the start and roughen up a bit.
