My fascination with the music of Mali and it's contemporary diaspora is that the melodies are "Top down", they start high and fall like rain. This is not a feature of Arabic traditions and not in Western music, including pop rock and blues and makes it very distinctive. I love the way this settles into a "Lover's rock rhythm" and the Kora begins to sound like steel pans? This may be my imagination. Lovely track anyway!

It is distinctive but I could never have told you why! This is soothing, comforting and beautiful all at the same time...
