Bands for the Break 2017

Well as promised/threatened, in the absence of our TunA fix, here's something that I caught live last night. 100% my thing, Holy Fuck. Electronic but with real instruments, driving, dancey, hints of Underworld, PiL, plus contemporaries, the Suuns. Here's one -

Ably supported by Makeness, whose own electronica tracks could glide effortlessly into rock, or even jazz. Weird but rather wonderful. Here's one of their more conventional tracks.

I like the sounds both of them make. real drums and bass adds to the human feel for Holy Fuck. Makeness are interesting sonically. The use of constant rhythm in both is where it leaves me - I prefer my electronics more abstract (less dancy).

What my world needs is another songwriter with a guitar and here's Shannon Lyon. This song is what floored me and set me off on going through the 14 albums. He has just set up a Patreon channel where you get 2 exclusive songs per month for $5. Interesting way of doing things now we have all this streaming.

Over from Florida, on tour - Tides of Man. They played our Sticky Mike's Frog Bar last night, and End of the Road Festival next weekend. If you like Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Caspian...

The pivotal song from A Ghost Story, my film of the year so far.
(n.b. That is not a recommendation. Wpc refused to go and friend I dragged along didn't enjoy...)
But for me, sublime. As is this song by Dark Rooms, aka Daniel Hart - and sooo like Phoria. Ha!

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the End of the Road I go... Looking forward to Slowdive, Blanck Mass, Ty Segall et al. Tonight, Brix and the Extricated - aka The Fall, minus Mark E - which will either be an exciting lurch down memory lane, or utterly pointless. Haha. Will report back...
