As I've done it, I can admire anyone who is driven to write songs and get up on a stage and beat people with them. Generations have picked up a Beatles song book and a guitar tutor and had a go.
Writing a song that includes writing a song is always an indication of having nothing to write a song about and a queue to wait in until you have something to write about.
I never liked "Year of the Cat" and don't rate Al Stewart so I'm not surprised he was capable of this.

Graceland era Paul Simon and Vampire Weekend are evoked in this jaunty album from East Anglia. Afro-pop beats meet smart lyrics. CD £9.99 inc. p&p / Download £6.99
